PROVIZ TEAM UP WITH DUNCAN SHAW OF THE CLAN TO PRODUCE THE ULTIMATE CYCLING COMMUTE VIDEO
11th October 2011
High visibility cycling accessory company Proviz has teamed up with Duncan Shaw of legendary stunt bike team The Clan to showcase Proviz’s stylish light-emitting products, together with the rider’s coolest urban moves, in a new short video. Labelled ‘The Ultimate Cycling Commute’, the energetic video follows Duncan on his daredevil commute home past some of London’s most famous landmarks.
Proviz Commute Video (On youtube)
Duncan Shaw is a founding member of The Clan, Scotland’s famed cycle stunt team, together with the legendary Danny MacAskill, the pro rider originally famed for the overnight success of his ‘April 2009’ street trials video and now recognised world-wide for his daring and exciting stunts. Duncan is a former UK trials rider champion from Inverness who plays an integral role in running the acclaimed The Clan shows.
Duncan comments, ‘I was excited to team up with Proviz as I think their products are sleek, funky and, most importantly, brilliant for keeping cyclists safe on the roads because of their unique light sources. I hope viewers will enjoy my stunts in the video and be inspired to get on their bike this winter and cycle home from work safely and in style!’
In the video, Duncan wears the Proviz Saturn in-mould helmet in Proviz fluorescent yellow. This helmet is the only one on the market to include LED lights built into the snap on/off front visor, as well as the rear headring, and retails at £54.99. He also sports the black Proviz electroluminescent waterproof cycling jacket, which comes in a yellow version too. The jacket is the first of its type on the European market and enables cyclists to stand out on the roads through its four durable and 100% waterproof electroluminescent strips, powered by AA batteries housed in the pocket, which light up cyclists’ torsos and allow them to be seen from a greater distance.
Proviz was set up by brothers Anthony and Rupert Langly-Smith, from London, in 2009. Having both cycled to work for many years, they decided to provide a solution for the many people who adapt their current cycle accessories, by such means as attaching camping head lamps or reflective tape to their helmet, in an attempt to become more visible. As a result, Proviz was born to bring to the market a distinctive and bold range of fluorescent yellow helmets, jackets, rucksacks and rucksack covers with bright, flashing, electroluminescent strips built in. After a thriving first year of trading, Proviz is hoping that the popularity of this video will encourage more people to be seen on the roads in their eye-catching gear.

Kenda Klimb Results from Mountain Mayhem
17th June 2011
The Original Source Mountain Mayhem 24-hour race kicked off at Eastnor Park last weekend, and the 14th edition of this race saw some 2000 people racing around the demanding course. The race was started and finished two hours earlier this year, 12pm instead of 2pm. For the 7th year running Kenda were the official tyre sponsors and dished out prizes on the podium to the winners of each of the 15 categories.
Much of the talk in the week leading up to the race centred around one thing and one thing only; the weather. It didn’t look good, with heavy rain most of last week, but on the day the weather held good and the competitors were treated to good conditions.
The race has continued to evolve over the years and is still a popular draw with experienced mountain bikers and those people taking their first steps into this sport. There’s fierce racing at the front of each category but at the other end the fast lap times are replaced with smiles bigger than the Kenda climb. Now more than ever before, it’s a race for all.
Regular riders of Mountain Mayhem will be familiar with the infamous Kenda Klimb which was timed, yet again. This was a great opportunity for riders to have a bit of fun, trying to beat their team mates on the most difficult part of the course. The Kenda Klimb was timed between 4pm–5pm, 8pm-9pm and 12am-1am, with prizes awarded to the fastest male and female (non-professionals only). This mini competition gives riders who may not have been able to win their category of the race a chance to win a prize.
The winners were:
Saturday 4pm – Ryan Henry (0.47) and Belinda Tarling (1.04)
Saturday 8pm – Oliver Pepper (0.47) and Belinda Tarling (1.01)
Sunday 12am – Richard Keet (0.51) and Sarah Martin (1.11)

With mechanics and team staff out working in the open this is the perfect opportunity for those race enthusiasts and bike fettlers looking to try and spot tyre choice and setup or the mega lightweight race machines that could make the difference between winning & losing over the weekend.
Race Zone
The reason everyone is at Dalby Forest. All the UCI races will pass through the Event Village three times on every lap and for those not wishing to venture around the course a big screen and the talents of Dan and Chris our race commentators will keep you informed as to what is happening out on the course including which riders to look out for in the run up to the big podium finish.
Race Feed Zone/Pit Area
Don't get confused; this is not a place to get your fish and chips! As elite racers fly around the course at maximum intensity pushing everything to the limit they need to maintain both liquid and energy levels to race at their maximum, this is where their helpers will pass up food and drink to keep them going. There are two feed zones on the course one in the Event Village and one at Medusas Drop.
However it's not just the bikes that are tested to the max andsometimes the components break under the strain or due to crashes out on the course. The Feed Zone/ Pit Area is the place where riders can stop to make repairs if the worst should happen
Medusa's Drop, Worry Gill and Dixons Hollow
There will be some great action in the Event Village but if you are looking to see the elite racers on top of their Game try heading to one of these key points on the race course. Highly technical the racers will need all their skill and guile to pick up the seconds on these course sections which will test both rider and bike to the limit. Click on the link marked ‘The Course' for a more in depth preview of the race route.
Hopefully see you there! Tickets can be bought through Ticketmaster and range from £5.50 - £13.50.

Dirty Sanchez takes on Geraint Thomas
12th April 2011
As some of you may know Todays Cyclist and Maxgear RT have offered to sponsor four athletes to raise money for the Ty Hafan children’s hospice charity in Wales. The four guys include the celebrity Mathew Pritchard (Pritch) from Dirty Sanchez. They are also being mentored by none other than Sky pro cyclist Geraint Thomas. On Tuesday 12th April we were at the Celtic Manor in Newport where BBC Wales filmed and interviewed the team with Geraint and then we all did a 2 hour ride.
Geraint said “A group of us met up at the Celtic Manor Resort to go for a training spin and, sure enough, professional prankster Pritch crashed. He claimed he clipped my back wheel and went down, landing in a hedge. The guys riding behind weren’t sure if it was one of his stunts and whether he’d dived off on purpose. But it was funny and I hope the television cameras caught it.”
It was a great day and you can see some of the photo’s here. For the actual Iron UK event in Bolton Maxgear will provide support to the athletes and Todays Cyclist are providing Limar helmets, Jagwire cables and a variety of Knog products. Champion Systems will be producing four tri suits especially for the event which include the Todays Cyclist logo and logos for all the brands we have sponsored the team with.
We will be giving away a SWYD T-shirt signed by Matthew Pritchard (Dirty Sanchez) and Geraint Thomas (Team Sky) through the website and our twitter page, so watch this space.
Cycling gold medalist to join Dirty Sanchez in Iron Man Challenge
24th March 2011
Welsh professional racing cyclist and Olympic gold medalist Geraint Thomas MBE will be helping to train Matthew Pritchard of MTV Dirty Sanchez fame in preparation for the cycling part of his Iron Man Challenge in Bolton later this year. Geraint will be giving lots of advice and encouragement to Matthew and his team of four.
The 112 mile bike race should be a “ride in the park” for Geraint after his success in the 2010 Tour de France when he came fifth in the prologue and second on stage three in the most famous bike race in the world.
Pritch and his team mates welcomed the additional member who will be helping the lads train for the event and no doubt spur them on during the strenuous challenge which also includes a 2.4 mile swim and a marathon.
Mathew said: “I feel very privileged and grateful to have Geraint’s support and experience in helping me with the cycling part of my ironman challenge. Considering it’s the main part of the challenge it will help a great deal. I’m looking forward to working with him.”
Geraint said: “I am delighted to be able to help the guys with their training. It is for a very worthy cause and I am looking forward to getting them in shape! I hope they will do really well!”
Todays Cyclist have generously helped Pritch in his challenge by providing a Limar 777 road helmet and Jagwire Racer cable kit's to deliver ultra-responsive braking, flawless shifting and long lasting performance. His progress will be tracked on a Knog computer and Todays Cyclist have also provided some extra Knog kit including the F*** Off leather gloves, saddle bag, jersey and the hi-powered Boomer USB rechargeable lights.
Owain Cassidy from Ty Hafan, the charity set to benefit from the team’s efforts said: “We are delighted that Pritch and his team mates have chosen to help the life-limited children, young people and their families from across Wales. We wish them well in their training and will definitely be cheering for them on the day.”
You can help support the lads and Ty Hafan by visiting Pritch’s Just Giving page here.
Pritch will be bloging on Todays Cyclist, so make sure you check the Blog section of the site to see how he gets on in his training and ironman challenge.

TODAYS CYCLIST TO SPONSOR MAXGEAR ROAD TEAM WITH LAKE SHOES, JAGWIRE CABLES AND KENDA TYRES
25th January 2011
Todays Cyclist will be supplying the team with their biggest selling road shoe - the Lake CX236 which comes with a 100% carbon fibre sole and leather upper. Jagwire Racer cable kits will be supplied to all riders to provide consistent, smooth shifting and amazingly powerful braking. The cable kits will be colour co-ordinated with their bikes and team kit, in addition to providing unyielding performance. The team will also be riding the new Kenda Volare road tyres. This tyre is Kenda’s pro-level, best performing tubular which combines modern day performance with old world craftsmanship.
Moore Large’s Marketing Manager Lauren Vanderplank said “We’re really excited to be working with the UK’s number one amateur cycling team. Maxgear have impressed us with their results, ethos and professional attitude. We believe this will be a great partnership. Unlike most teams Maxgear Racing does not focus on one level or category. This has shown to be their strength and from a sponsor point of view it gives maximum exposure to a very large and varied audience.”
Maxgear racing was formed in 2006 with one mission “To be one of the most successful cycling teams in the UK.” In this short period they have achieved exactly that. The team includes World and National Champions in many categories and finished 2010 ranked higher than a huge number of fully professional cycling teams. They were number eighth out of more than 1400 nationally ranked teams. Maxgear’s road team consists of 11 male riders, including team manager Wayne Greenhalgh, 4 juniors and 5 women.
Team Manager Wayne Greenhalgh said “2010 was an amazing year for the team, with riders winning so many races and gaining national and rainbow jerseys. To build on this it was important that sponsorship came from companies who have quality products. The sponsorship from Today’s Cyclist will make a big difference to the team in 2011. The supply of Lake shoes, Kenda tyres and Jagwire cables which are all associated with performance, ensures the team has no worries in this area. Many riders were already using these products by choice so it’s a perfect sponsorship for us.“
This year has already got off to a great start as the team clinched the Revolution championships, taking the title by a single point from Team Sky. Maxgear will be taking part in many more high profile events this year, including The Premier Calendar, National Crit Series, various National Championships and overseas World Cup events.
Cody’s Challenge to Launch Team Basso – Todays Cyclist Into 2011 Season
21st January 2011
Our newly formed Irish based racing squad, Team Basso – Todays Cyclist will hold its official launch at Cody’s Challenge on Saturday 22nd January. The event has been chosen as an ideal pre-season get together for members of the team as strong links exist between the event organisers, Orchard C.C. and the new squad. Long time member of the Orchard club and former international cyclist, Keith Gallagher has spent the winter months putting the team together. The team also includes current Irish international, Simon Williams who has represented the Armagh club from youth level but will now line-up alongside a strong group of riders from across the province to take on major races on the Irish calendar.
The team are supported by Todays Cyclist, who are providing Lake CX236 shoes and Limar Pro104 Helmets. The team will be riding Basso Diamante and Astra bikes for the upcoming racing season. Gallagher who is Irish Area Manager for Moore Large, the distributors for Basso in the UK and Ireland said: “This is a good opportunity for Basso bikes to get exposure in Ireland with the team riding races all over the country throughout the year, we also want to thank Todays Cyclist for providing us with this support for the season ahead.”
Speaking this week, Gallagher said: “Last year Adam Rayner was the sole representative of Team Basso in Irish events and had some good results which included a 2nd place at the Irish Junior Road Race Championships, we have now expanded the team for 2011 and have a number of strong riders who will be hoping to show the Basso – Todays Cyclist team colours at the front of races throughout the year.”
Among the targets for the team in 2011 are the Ulster Classic League events, Tour of the North, Tour of Ulster and the Irish Road Race Championships. Williams will be joined in these races by riders such as former Irish international, Desi Foley who showed a return to form in 2011 by taking a stage victory in the Tain Team Tour in August and Nathan Morgan, a promising young rider who represented Ulster last season.
Pro Bike Kit's Dave Video Review's the Lake CX401 custom fit carbon Road Shoe
21st January 2011
Riders including Carlos Sastre and Tyler Farrar have put the shoes through their paces. So we’ve got a top class stage racer and a top class sprinter using the shoes, what can us mere mortals expect from the Lake’s?
Out of the box you notice that they’re a pretty light weight shoe, then next up you notice the amount of carbon that you can play with and for a guy who’s used to using Sidi shoes, how empty and clean they are from the splashes and flashes of colour you get with other cycling footwear.
This is not a bad thing at all, in fact it makes the technology and “trick bits” stand out without screaming. They have that fine handmade look about them, like a nice suit.
These shoes are all about the technology. Lake seem to have come from the opinion that it’s function over form and seeing as your shoes are one of the main contact points between you and your bike this really is a wise move.
Kangaroo Leather, a BOA closure system, outlast lining and a custom carbon moldable sole are all put in the mix to make this shoe a top riders’ choice.
Get your oven turned on, get your shoes out of the box and you’re half way to having that custom fit shoe feeling. With the Lake’s CFC (custom fit carbon fibre) sole you have the choice to mould the shoe around your foot. It’s not a massively difficult procedure either, just make sure you get the oven temperature right. You don’t want to be scraping carbon off your baking tray do you…
After a few minutes in the oven it’s a case of pressing the carbon in to the right position. It can take maybe a few attempts to get this right but as Lake state on the website it’s not a problem to keep repeating this procedure. Once you have the shoe molded correctly it feels as though it’s hugging your feet, secure and comfortable. They seem to grip the heel well and there is no slippage in this area.
These shoes were the first I’ve used that have utilised the BOA closure system. In essence it’s just a neat little dial that pulls a laced wire around the shoe.
In the little book you get it says that due to the carbon custom fit and the BOA system you may not need to tighten the shoes up as much as other shoes, this I was dubious about but once on the bike I found this to be true. I’m currently using this in what should be a hot climate – Australia. But the weather’s been a bit up and down so they’ve seen red hot days and bloody wet and cold ones too. On the hot days the lack of having to tighten them up is very noticeable, not having any pressure points on a hot day certainly helps make those all day rides nice and comfy. Well as comfy as you can get when tackling the hills around the Dandenongs.
To add to the comfort factor you get the choice to either have a very thin base insole or again a form fitting insole. Lake say that the thicker insole eventually takes the shape of your foot. I’ve used the shoes with and without the thicker sole and prefer them with the sole.
The leather used is Kangaroo (I’ll say that quietly, don’t want to alarm any locals). This is the first time I’ve worn a pair of shoes using Kangaroo leather and it looks a little more fragile and not as glossy as the Lorica that some cycling shoes are made of, but as I’ve said it’s function over form. So far very little scuffing has appeared, it seems to be a hard wearing material and extremely soft to. Very pliable and form fitting, it fits with the whole ethos of the shoe.
The shoe comes in both three bolt fitting and a special Speedplay fitting. So compatibility shouldn’t be problem.
The scuff guards are a nice feature too. The heal rubber is there to stop you slipping all over the place in your local cafe, this is replaceable and matches up nicely with the side and nose scuff guards.
The outlast lining on the tongue and inner lining is there for keeping your feet cool. I didn’t notice it, so I’m guessing this is a good thing. It must be doing its job quietly.
All in all these are a top flight shoe. Maybe not as bling looking as Sidi’s but they excel in the comfort factor. The custom moulding process is easy but comes at a pretty high price. Though Lake make some nice lower end shoes with pretty much the same technology, BOA closure , outlast lining, K-lite leather but without the custom mouldable carbon.
The feel of the shoe once moulded to your foot can take a few rides to get use to, as it seems to be wrapping around your foot. As opposed to your feet sitting on the shoes.
I noticed it most in the arch of my foot. It feels different but in a good way to other non-moldable shoes. You can feel it supporting your foot but without undue amounts of pressure.
The upper is soft, and again secure. And I’m sold on the BOA system. Easy to tighten on the fly when needed and you have a great degree of minute adjustment with it too.
If you’re after a top end shoe and want something a little different there well worth a look. I’m real happy with mine, I can see why Mr Farrar and Mr Sastre have decided to keep using them.

27th JULY 2010 - ROB SHARMAN OF TEAM BASSO WINS THE DUNCAN MURRAY WINES ELITE 1/2/3 EVENT
On Sunday the 25th of July, hosted by Welland Valley Cycling Club and sponsored by Duncan Murray Wines, the event included a regional B 3/4 80km race (4 laps), a National B Elite 1/2/3 140km race (7 laps) and a Womens elite 1/2/3/4 80km race (4 laps).
The Naseby circuit posed a challenge for the competitors as their strength was tested by the climbs and sections where determination to hold a wheel in the gutter ended up being the only option.
As the race progressed the stronger riders moved to the front and started pushing the pace. By the fifth lap there was a clear break of forerunners with Matt Stephens and Kit Gilham of Team Sigma, Basso Bikes’ Rob Sharman and Owain Lovell of Ashfield RC forging open a gap between them and the chasers.
The four riders at the front worked well together an it became clear that they would be the ones to secure first to fourth places. Fighting for 5th place behind the front four were Tom Barras (Team Raleigh), Roy Chamberlin (Team Corely Cycles) and Kevin Dawson (Team Sportscover).
In the final few kilometres, the Team Sigma started applying the pressure and Owain Lowell started to slip off the pace. Matt Stephens, a former Tour of Italy rider, drove hard with 400 metres to go as Gilham and Sharman followed. However, by the 200 metre mark it was Sharman who dominated the sprint for the finish and crossed the line first with raised arms in celebration. Gilham came in second, Stephens third and Lovell fourth.
The race results are as follows;
1. Rob Sharman of www.bassobikes.co.uk
2. Kit Gilham of Sigmasport Specialized Cycling Team
3. Matthew Stephens of Sigmasport Specialized Cycling Team
4. Owain Lovell of Ashfield RC

19th JULY 2010 - ONZA TEAM TRIUMPH AT NATIONAL BIKE TRIAL SERIES
Onza attended the National Bike Trial Series round 4 this Sunday (18th July) at Bracken Rocks in Matlock.
Onza’s world champion rider Jack Carthy and seasoned pro Ryan Crisp were just some of the Onza riders attending. After a short rain fall in the morning the rocks became awful to ride and many riders had commented on these terrible conditions. Carthy powered on through and took 1st place in the elite category while Crisp claimed second in expert. Kenda Small Block 8 tyres seem to have quite the following now in the world of trials as many riders were sporting these on their front wheels including champion Carthy.
All from Onza and Todays Cyclist wish good luck to Ryan and Jack on their travels next weekend to Poland where they shall compete in the UCI World Youth Championships. Jack will hope to defend his title of world champion but I'm sure Ryan will be out to stake his claim too. Best of luck to both of them.
21st JUNE 2010 - MOUNTAIN MAYHEM SUCCESS!
Todays Cyclist attended Mountain Mayhem, at Eastnor Castle last weekend. The UK’s toughest 24 hour mountain bike endurance race has a reputation for wet weather (as the event normally coincides with the Glastonbury festival), but this year the sun was shining all weekend! The event was a huge success with 2640 of the country’s most fearless riders competing in the race and over 15,000 spectators.
Kenda was the race’s official tyre and tube sponsor for the 6th year running and had a strong presence at the event, displaying a full range of tyres including all the latest tread patterns available in the UK. Other Todays Cyclist brands on show at the event were Lake, Knog, Limar and Blackjack.
Wacky Aussie brand Knog gave riders and spectators a sneak peak of their exciting new lock range which will hit the UK during the autumn months. Lake were showing off their finest range of MTB shoes and the Portuguese wheel manufacturer Blackjack were displaying their hand built XC wheels. Limar, maker of the world’s lightest helmet had a range of new helmets on show which encompassed urban and multisport models as well as fresh MTB helmets, including a MTB version of the Pro 104 Ultralight, which is the world’s lightest helmet weighing just 170g.
As usual, Kenda were happy to offer a free inner-tube replacement service for riders who were unlucky enough to get a puncture during the race. Kenda also swapped hundreds of damaged tubes for brand new Kenda ones, making sure the riders were able to get straight back on the course.
The infamous Kenda Klimb was timed for an hour at 3pm on Saturday, Midnight and 10am on Sunday and prizes were awarded to the fastest man and women (non-professionals only) of each timed climb. This mini competition gives riders who may not have been able to win their category of the race a chance to win a prize. The Kenda Klimb changes each year but endeavours to be one of the toughest sections of the course. This year’s Kenda Klimb was shorter than usual but it had three switchbacks, a big hump at the top and it was steep and grassy. The winners of each timed session are:
Men
3pm - David Forrest - 0.52
Midnight - Keith Palmer - 0.50
10am - Geoff Beetham - 0.48
Women
3pm - Berlinda Tarling - 1.03
Midnight - Rhiannon Cook - 1.36
10am - Jane Cumming - 1.22
Professionals
3pm - Roger Walder Scott - 0.51
Midnight - Lee William - 0.42
10am - Paul Oldham - 0.53
Although the competition was not open to professionals their results were still recorded so they can see how they performed on the Kenda Klimb in comparison with their team mates and competitors. Every rider who passed the Kenda Klimb during the timed sessions had their results recorded and they will be uploaded to the Todays Cyclist site very soon. So keep checking back at www.todayscyclist.co.uk to see how you did.
People who did not race still had the opportunity to win Kenda prizes with the Kenda Prize Plunge that was drawing the crowds into the Kenda stand. This was as popular as ever and we gave out hundreds of Kenda prizes from tyre levers, ponchos and Frisbees to pairs of tyres and jerseys.
After the race, Kenda prizes were given out to the winners of each of the 15 categories on the podium.
We really enjoyed the event and are pleased to be involved with such a success that is destined to get bigger and bigger each year. Make sure you pencil Mountain Mayhem in your diary for mid-summer weekend next year and we will see you at the Kenda stand!
21st JUNE 2010 - SPONSORED RIDERS DOMINATE PODIUMS AT MOUNTAIN MAYHEM
This weekend we had some cracking results from our sponsored riders at the 24 hour MTB endurance event, Mountain Mayhem.
WXC dominated the women’s podiums, coming first in both the Open and Individual races. Southwest XC Champ, Carla Haines led team mates Jess Roberts (current BUCS XC champion), Malin Tindberg and Rachel Fenton to a clear victory in the open race with 23 laps. Rickie Cotter (National UK Solo 24hr champion) underlined her position within the women’s endurance field by winning the individual race a clear 2 laps ahead of her nearest rival, finishing with a total of 19 laps.
The WXC mountain bike team has a squad of 11 riders, all women. WXC has been on the scene for a few years and has seen plenty of talented riders rise through the ranks. Before the racing season even started this year the team had managed to rack up 127 wins, 156 podiums, 252 top ten placings and one world title. Todays Cyclist officially kit the WXC team out with Kenda Tyres, KMC Chains, Tifosi eyewear, Lake shoes, and Limar helmets.
The girls used a mix of Kenda tyres to win the race, with the most popular front tyre being the Kenda Nevegal. Rear tyres varied from Small Block Eights to Karmas and Dread Treads. They were wearing Lake MX170s, Tifosi Slip and the world’s lightest helmet, the Limar Pro 104 MTB. In between laps, Tifosi Lust was the girls’ choice of leisure glasses.
We didn’t too badly in the men’s races either, with the Kenda Suntour team coming in 2nd place. The Kenda Suntour team were leading all day Saturday but unfortunately had a problem during the night and as a result lost 20 minutes. However, they did make some time back but unfortunately were 10 minutes behind the winning team with both teams completing 30 laps. Todays Cyclist kit the team out practically head to toe with Limar Pro 104 helmets, KMC Chains, Jagwire brake and gear cables, SR Suntour Axon forks, Blackjack tubeless wheelsets and Lake MX330’s.

11the JUNE 2010 - KENDA PROUD TO SPONSOR MOUNTAIN MAYHEM FOR TYRES AND TUBES
Kenda will have a strong presence at the event, displaying a full range of tyres including all the latest models available in the UK.
As usual, Kenda will offer a free inner-tube replacement service for riders who are unlucky enough to get a puncture during the race. All they have to do is come to the Kenda stand with their race number and we will replace their damaged tube for a brand new Kenda one.
Regular riders of Mountain Mayhem will be familiar with the infamous Kenda Klimb which was timed for the first time last year. The Kenda Klimb will be timed for an hour at 3pm on Saturday, Midnight and 10am on Sunday and prizes will be awarded for the fastest man and women (non-professionals only) of each timed climb. This year we have made it even easier for riders to know when they are being timed as a beacon at the bottom of the Kenda Klimb will be flashing, just in case they forget. All riders can find out how they did at the Kenda stand, with the fastest riders results being displayed on the leader board. After the event the results will also be on todayscyclist.co.uk for anyone who didn’t get chance to see how they got on during the race. This mini competition gives riders who may not be able to win their category of the race a chance to win a prize.
If you’re not racing you still have the opportunity to win Kenda prizes with the Kenda Prize Plunge. For £1.00 you can plunge your hand in and see what you get, it could be a pair of tyres if you’re lucky or a smaller prize such as a tube or sweets.
Mountain Mayhem is to be held at Eastnor Castle between the 18th and 20th June and spectators are welcome.

21st APRIL 2010 - HARO BMX USED BY LEICESTERSHIRE POLICE
Officers in Leicestershire are using what is believed to be the first police BMX bike in the UK. The marked-up blue and white Haro F3 bike will be used for school safety sessions, and to break down barriers when police meet young people on the streets and in parks.
Leicestershire Police have used larger, high specification mountain bikes, for many years. During visits to schools, officers give advice on checking bikes for safety, carrying out road manoeuvres safely, and bike security.
PCSO Vince Preston, from Oadby and Wigston local policing unit, said BMX bikes had definite advantages when dealing with younger members of the community. He added: “It is a size the children can get on, and it helps build a rapport with them. Kids are more open to speaking to you than if you are on a larger bike or on foot patrol. In the majority of cases a BMX is quicker than a mountain bike, it’s easier to manoeuvre.”
PCSO Preston said his experience using mountain bikes showed how valuable they were for catching criminals. “In a car, they can hear you a mile off, but on a bike you are virtually silent. This area has lots of alleyways which I know and can use, so often I can get to an incident at least as quickly as colleagues in a car. And while you are on patrol, you can communicate with members of the public which you can’t do if you are driving past in a patrol car, and you can also see and smell more than being in a car.”
Haro Bikes UK Distributor Moore Large & Co Ltd has supplied the bike free of charge. Haro Bikes Brand Manager Adam Garner said “We are delighted to be involved in this fantastic project, Haro is one of the biggest BMX brands in the world so we are hoping it will help gain respect between the police and Leicestershire’s youth. We look forward to supporting Leicestershire Police force over the coming months and watching the project make a positive influence on the local community.”
Adam has selected PCSO Preston the Haro Bikes F3 model as it is one of the best all round BMX bikes Haro have to offer. It is great for riding across the streets, over the ramps, on the skatepark, across dirt jumps and through singletrack in the woods. The F3 model boasts 3+ tube Chromoly Frame, 3-Piece cranks, 25-9T ratio gearing, U-Style brakes on both the front and rear, 4 stunt pegs and full 360 degree gyro!

Growth in this sector in particular is reinforced by the group of commuters who will be forced to consider using folding bikes in combination with public transport to overcome the last few miles to work. Rising fuel costs, growing traffic problems and the inevitable congestion charging policies are beginning to shape commuting patterns in the U.K’s major cities. Commuting solutions now include driving to the edge of the city for parking and then quickly and easily stepping onto the folding bike for the last few miles.”
